Too Gülü (Mountain flowers) is inspired by the wildflowers that bloom across the mountains of Naryn. Its vibrant colors reflect the diversity of flora, bringing the mountain landscape into the home through felt.

The shyrdak is made using the kurak technique, kurak means “assembled” or “sewn together”– separate pieces are carefully joined to form a unified design. In this piece, the kurak is composed of triangles that symbolize “tumarca”, a traditional protective amulet believed to guard against misfortune and negative forces.

This form of handicraft is found throughout Central Asia and speaks to the remarkable skill and resourcefulness of women artisans. Historically, kurak was a way to create beauty from remnants, transforming small, leftover pieces into something whole, meaningful, and unique. Made from hand-felted sheep’s wool and stitched entirely by hand, this shyrdak represents weeks of meticulous labor.
